Hawaii: date night

You’ve got a sitter and a whole night to yourselves! And you are in Hawaii! Here are some great ideas for a night out.

The romantic easy date night

What could be more romantic than watching the sunset over the ocean, alongside your sweetheart? Pack a picnic and head out to the North Shore to watch the sunset from the sand! Some great restaurant options include Haleiwa Beach House, Haleiwa Joe’s, the lanai at Duke’s Waikiki, or The Lanai at Mamala Bay. My personal favorite, however, is Top of Waikiki, a revolving restaurant with great drinks and even better food in the heart of Waikiki.

For an even better view of the sunset, Star of Honolulu offers sunset cruises with a variety of dining options. Friday night cruises even feature a view of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Firework Show. Be sure to check your base ticket office for military pricing!

The casual, we're just happy to be out iof the house, date night

Oahu has SO many great restaurants for a casual night out! Monkey Pod in Ko’Olina has a great farm to table dishes at reasonable prices. Uncle Bo’s in Haleiwa has an upscale feel, but as a location that is just steps from the beach, no one will think twice if you roll in with board shorts. For some locally brewed craft beers and the best beer mac and cheese make a stop at Honolulu Beerworks in Kaka’ako! Like Duke’s (mentioned above) Hula Grill Waikiki is located at the Outrigger Waikiki, but without the wait often associated with Duke’s you can easily get in for your meal.

The unique date night

Breakout Hawaii makes for a great group date! With a variety of room options to break out of, you can visit this place 4 or 5 times and always have an exciting experience.

For a unique bar hoping tour, Paradise Pedals has you covered! On the tour, you’ll pedal through Kaka’ako, passing all sorts of murals and making spots at local brewpubs and bars. Along the tour, you might stop at places including The Brewseum and Café Duck Butt – two bars unlike any other you’ve likely been to!

The adventurous date night

Tell your date to take a hike! No, really! Get some exercise while enjoying fantastic views and a sense of accomplishment! Even novice hikers should have no issues completing some of the easier hikes that the island has to offer! Diamond Head (Honolulu), Kaena Point (Waianae or North Shore), Makapuu Lighthouse Trail (Waimanalo), or the Lanikai Pillboxes (Lanikai), are all great options.

For something a little more adventurous, try ziplining for your date night Hawaii! At Kualoa Ranch, you can zip through parts of the Jurassic Park scenery. CLIMB Works Kaena Farms offers unbeatable views of the North Shore!

The art lover date night

Whether you’d like to view art or make it yourself, Oahu has a variety of options! The Haleiwa Art Gallery is filled with painted and blown glass pieces from about 20 Pacific Island artists. If you’re lucky, you can even watch an artist blowing glass in the corner window.

The Honolulu Museum of Art has a variety of ever-changing exhibits that include Hawaiian culture and exhibits from around the world. ARTafterDARK is a monthly event held at the museum on the last Friday of each month.

If you’d rather be the artist, check out one of the many paint and sip events around the island. Many of the bases even have their own painting events. Oeno Paint and Sip nights through Create a Canvas include wine samplings and even a bottle to take home!

The music lover's date night

Blue Note Hawaii is Hawaii’s premier live music venue! Nightly events include local artists, jazz and blues musicians, and comedians. Also, be sure to check The Republik or Neal S. Blaisdell Center for larger mainland musicians and performers that might be stopping by in the islands.

The overnight date night

If a little staycation is on your radar for date night Hawaii, The Sheraton Waikiki has just about everything you need. Lounge by the resort pool, where you can watch the sunset. Grab a bite to eat one of the many on-site restaurant options, or even hit the club at RumFire Waikiki! The Sheraton is centrally located enough that you can walk all over Waikiki as well!
