Date Night Fort Bliss: Ideas for Military Couples

So you’re stationed at Fort Bliss and are looking to cut loose with your sweetheart for a date. You’re in luck! It doesn’t matter if you live on post or in the far East or West, there’s something for every couple in and around El Paso; a city of over 649,000 people! Consider these ideas for a change of pace when you're planning a date night near Fort Bliss.

El Paso date night ideas

The WOW Date: take in the sights

Looking to start off your date night with that WOW factor? Take the Wyler Aerial Tramway to the top of the Franklin Mountains; the 2nd highest point in Texas! You can take in the views spanning multiple states and pull your sweetheart close if you’re scared of heights. The ride up is quick (about 5 minutes) and it’s only open for certain hours Friday through Saturday, but it’s well worth it if for nothing else than a great photo-op. You’d be surprised by how many locals haven’t done this yet! Head up in the afternoon or early evening to see the sunset, then go into town for some grub.

The Unique Dining Date: eat your face off

Ok, so I know you thought I was gonna give you date night ideas that were more exciting than restaurant recommendations, and I am, but just hang on one second. You HAVE to (and when I say “HAVE to” I mean it like a direct order) eat at Cattleman’s Steakhouse at least five times while you’re stationed at Fort Bliss.

Why? Cuz it’s the country’s manliest steakhouse. For real, it was voted “America’s Manliest Steakhouse” by Men’s Health magazine. About 45 minutes from Fort Bliss, this dinner and wildlife excursion is soooo worth the drive. The restaurant is in the middle of nowhere on a ranch that, let’s face it, is actually a zoo. Put your name on the wait list and enjoy petting exotic animals before heading inside to devour your beautifully buttered ribeye, while coyotes stare at you through the windows.

The Scary Date: fear and beer

As if taking the tram was your only excuse to pull your sweetheart close in feigned fear, take a ghost tour in downtown El Paso! I recommend Ghosts915 if you’re looking for a haunted pub crawl (because let’s be real…spirits are best enjoyed with spirits), or El Paso Ghost Tours to do an actual paranormal investigation. Seriously, this is a great date night activity, especially for a group date!

The Active Date: livin' it up

There is always a concert, festival or major event happening in El Paso that is perfect for a date night. While I was stationed at Bliss, my husband and I saw Willie Nelson in concert at the Plaza Theater downtown (lots of interesting scents in the air, if you catch my drift). We also attended a rodeo or two at the El Paso Convention Center, grabbed a few brewskis at a beer festival, and enjoyed watching dudes chasing a pig skin at a football game at UTEP. Be sure to keep tabs on the events and you’ll never want for a Date Night Fort Bliss idea!

Welp, that should be enough to get you started! I hope you and your sweetheart enjoy Fort Bliss and the surrounding area as much as my husband and I did!
